Windows 7 hits end of life on the 14th of this month, at which point, Microsoft will no longer be supporting Windows 7 (save for some exceptions where companies shell out money for additional support). So, it's not necessarily the case that DirectX 12 is more performant.Įither way, you're stuck using Vulkan for Windows 7. On my machine, when I tried it, I saw a drop from close to 60 fps down to 30 fps. Whether DirectX 12 gets you better performance depends on your settings and system.
